Gap Year Equestrian / Horse Care & Riding Assistant Location: Colombo, Sri Lanka | Live-in | Duration: 6–12 months (min. 6 months)
About Us: We are a small private horse farm in Colombo with 6–8 horses for riding lessons and show jumping. Riders include children, amateurs, and semi-professionals. We prioritize correct horsemanship, kindness, consistency, and calm, confident horses over high-pressure commercial environments. Ideal for a European rider seeking a meaningful gap-year experience in a warm climate with daily riding and hands-on stable life.
Role Overview: Live on-site and assist with horse care, exercise, and stable management. Focus on flatwork, light jumping (experience-based), horse fitness and well-being, and supporting a safe, positive environment for young riders.
Responsibilities: Horse Care: grooming, tacking, feeding, stable management, monitoring health, assisting vets/farriers. Riding & Training: flatwork, light show-jumping, exercising horses appropriately, maintaining calm, confident horses. Rider Support: assist during children’s sessions, act as positive role model, maintain safe, structured, encouraging environment.
Candidate Profile: Essential: female preferred, 20–25, European, confident rider with flatwork skills, horse care experience, love for horses, patience with children, responsible, adaptable. Ideal: show-jumping experience, yard/working student/pony club experience, gap year between school/university, interest in different riding conditions.
